小説すばる新人賞の下読み。

こういう新人賞の応募原稿については「下読みの鉄人」(http://www.sky.sannet.ne.jp/shitayomi/)という優れたサイトがあるので、今さら私が何か言うことなんてない。

……と言いつつ書いてしまうのだが、原稿を印刷する時に、体裁には気を配るに越したことはない、と思う。

今回いちばん読み辛かったのが、原稿用紙の升目に合わせて20字×20行で印刷された原稿だった。文章自体は普通なのに、体裁が体裁なので字面を追うだけでかなり疲れてしまった。

字面を追うだけで消耗してしまうと、いいところがあっても見落としてしまうことだってあるかもしれない。そうなってしまっては実にもったいない。
