やっぱり体調が

思わしくないのでおとなしく寝ている。

アティカス・コディアックシリーズ第４作。

[読了]幸運は誰に？ / カール・ハイアセン

きわめて精緻に組み立てられたバカなお話。メインの宝くじ争奪戦に加え、田舎町の「奇蹟」ビジネス（涙を流すインチキ聖母像などなど）や広大な森林をめぐる買収話などが絡み合うプロットは決して単純なものではないが、個性の強いキャラクターのおかげで分かりやすいものになっている。

それぞれのキャラクターが好き勝手に動き回っているようでいながら、最後はパズルが完成するかのように個々のサブプロットが落ち着くべきところに収束する。八方破れに見えて、実はしっかり計算されている。読む側はその巧妙さに圧倒されることもなく、バカバカしく愉快な展開を楽しむばかり。

世の中、上手いけれど上手さが目立ってしまう作品も多い（私にとってはトマス・Ｈ・クックの一連の『～の記憶』なんかがそうだ）。それに比べると、もはや技巧を読者に意識させないのがハイアセン。素晴らしい。
